My impression on Steve Jobs: The Man Who Thought Different

Image
Some of the things I have heard about Steve Jobs are: He was a college drop-out, he was thrown out of the Apple Company he co-founded, and he later entered the Apple Company and ultimately became the CEO. After having read his biography by Karen Blumenthal, I realized that the Real Apple is Steve Jobs. He was born out of wedlock of college students. The boy was of a Syrian origin, thus the parents of the girl, Joanne Schieble, did not accept the child. The young boy was adopted by a couple, Clara and Paul Jobs, on condition that they would give him college studies. Jobs grew up as an inquisitive and restless kid. He did not like any structured way of life. Therefore school did not provide him a suitable environment to grow and learn. As a young teenager, he had lots of adventures and he was a person who was always in search of something where he could give his heart and soul. From his father, he learned how to repair vehicles and imbibe the quality of getting things done...

My impression on: ‘I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban’

Image
News flashed globally about a teenage girl called Youfazai Malala, who was shot on the head by the Taliban, for taking up the cause of Girls' right to Education. Animators and teachers would quote about her during their talks or programme. Overnight she seems to get World-Wide attentions. Besides, a book called “I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban”, appeared. It was even sold in the train and road-sides. She gave a speech in UN which again was telecast in the News Channels and in YouTube. Finally she awarded with  many other International and National prizes, and crowned with the coveted Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. In fact, there was no curiosity left about her life, though I must admit that I did not know much about her early life at Swat Valley, Pakistan. One fine day in March 2018, I was glancing randomly at the book stake to find some books to read. I saw this book again, so I grabbed it without much thought but only to kno...

My impression on When the River Sleeps

Image
When the River Sleeps Easterine Kire Kire, Easterine. When the River Sleeps . Zubaan, 2014. ‘When the River Sleeps’ is an unassuming fictional book that has the power to keep the reader warped with attention. The vivid and detailed narration of the story, keeps the reader glued to the book till one turns the last leaf. The story revolves around Vilie, a man in his forties, who ventures out to get a stone from mysterious sleeping river. The setting of the story is based on the far flung village life and wild forests, which are infested by spirits. Just as there are human villages, there are also certain forests that are inhabited by the spirits. The spirits are presented to be as real and powerful as human beings. The evil spirits would attack human beings especially those who fear or those who are weak hearted.   The suspense of the story and the spirit infested jungle, hold the reader’s imagination and evoke goosebumps. The author throws light on the culture ...
